Singapore Soul Sculpture: A Fusion of Tamil and Art
Singapore Soul Sculpture: A Celebration of Multilingualism
Created by Jaume Plensa in 2011, the “Singapore Soul” sculpture stands proudly at the Ocean Financial Centre. This unique artwork incorporates characters from Singapore’s four national languages: Tamil, Mandarin, Malay, and English.
Mandarin is actually the most spoken language in Singapore, reflecting the country’s dominant Chinese ethnicity. However, Tamil holds a significant place as one of the official languages and is spoken by a considerable population with Tamil heritage, estimated around 200,000 people. The “Singapore Soul” beautifully reflects this rich tapestry of languages and cultures.
Consider adding it to your Singapore itinerary if you’re planning a visit!
