Coimbatore, July 8, 2025 Coimbatore continues to establish itself as a breeding ground for young athletic talent, thanks to a surge in grassroots level sports programs, school participation, and free coaching camps.
This summer, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) hosted a free coaching camp from April 25 to May 15 at Nehru Stadium and the Corporation Ground, focusing on students under 18.
The camp offered structured training across multiple sports including athletics, football, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, and kabaddi and attracted hundreds of school children.
Meanwhile, schools like CS Academy have been setting benchmarks, with students winning over 100 trophies and 200 medals at district level competitions in 2023–24. Their consistent dominance in events such as football, tennis, swimming, and volleyball showcases the rising standard of school sports in the district.
Coimbatore’s growing infrastructure, access to coaching, and parental encouragement are playing a pivotal role in nurturing young champions. With initiatives like SDAT camps and school level tournaments gaining momentum, the city is well on its way to becoming a key sports development zone in Tamil Nadu.
