Important Notice for Devotees
The Coimbatore District Administration has announced that vehicles heading toward the Marudhamalai Subramaniyaswami Temple will not be allowed to proceed beyond a certain point on October 17, 2025, due to preparations for the upcoming Kandha Sashti festival scheduled for October 27 and 28, 2025.
The decision aims to manage the heavy influx of devotees expected for the major spiritual events of Soorasamharam and Thirukalyanam. Authorities have begun extensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations at the hill temple.
Vehicle Restrictions Explained
As per the official notice, private and tourist vehicles will be restricted from traveling uphill on October 17. This includes both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, as roads leading to the hilltop temple will be temporarily closed for public vehicles.
Only authorized temple service vehicles, emergency services, and official transport will be permitted access during the restricted period.
Devotees are advised to park their vehicles at designated parking areas near the foothills and proceed to the temple by foot or authorized shuttle services.
Devotee Instructions
Â
- Avoid bringing private vehicles to the temple on the restricted date.
- Use public transportation or shared rides to minimize congestion.
- Follow signboards and police directions around Marudhamalai Road.
- Elderly devotees and differently-abled persons may avail special arrangements made by temple authorities.
The Coimbatore Traffic Police and Temple Devasthanam Board have jointly appealed to the public for cooperation to ensure the safety and convenience of all pilgrims.
Why the Restriction
The Marudhamalai temple, one of Tamil Nadu’s most visited hill shrines, attracts thousands of devotees every day — with numbers multiplying during the Kandha Sashti festival. The steep, narrow hill road often experiences traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns when overcrowded.
To prevent accidents and ensure smooth festival arrangements, authorities have imposed this temporary vehicle entry ban.
