Coimbatore, Oct 21, 2025:
To enhance road safety and reduce congestion, the city administration has introduced new traffic signals along Avinashi Road, one of Coimbatore’s busiest routes. These new installations aim to ensure smoother vehicle movement and pedestrian safety.
According to traffic officials, three major junctions on Avinashi Road have now been equipped with new signal systems. The signals have been strategically placed at:
- Lakshmi Mills Junction
- Anna Statue Junction
- Nava India Junction
These points are known for high vehicle density, frequent pedestrian crossings, and accident-prone stretches. The new traffic lights are expected to significantly improve traffic discipline and minimize delays during peak hours.
The Coimbatore City Traffic Police (CCTP) and the Highways Department have jointly worked on this initiative to modernize the city’s traffic infrastructure. The signal system includes automated timers, pedestrian lights, and high-visibility LED indicators that can be easily spotted even under bright daylight.
Officials emphasized that the new signals will be monitored from the Integrated Traffic Control Centre, ensuring real-time management and quick response during breakdowns or traffic jams.
Motorists and pedestrians have welcomed this move, citing that better signal management could help prevent accidents and unnecessary delays. Regular enforcement and public cooperation are also being stressed by the police to ensure long-term effectiveness.
The new signals are part of Coimbatore’s ongoing smart city initiative, which focuses on improving traffic flow, enhancing safety, and promoting sustainable urban mobility. Authorities have also announced that more such installations will be extended to other key roads in the upcoming months.
With these steps, the Coimbatore traffic system continues to evolve toward a more organized and technology-driven framework, ensuring that the city’s roads remain safe and efficient for all users.
